2021 Season AGM and Dinner Dance – 22 January 2022

A fitting end to a great season

AGM  & Dinner Dance – Radisson Blu Hotel, East Midlands.

On the 22nd of January, the Sports 2000 Championships enjoyed our annual Dinner Dance at the Radisson Blu East Midlands Airport Hotel. After what felt like an age since the last time we were able to meet there, it was a very anticipated occasion. Drivers, teams, members of the paddock and their families – new or old to the series – flocked in to celebrate the 2021 season, with the 2020 campaign in their hearts too, as both had been great successes on many levels, throughout the COVID pandemic.

There was wonderful food, incredible music from The Gatsby Band, and a good time had by all. Laughter a plenty and some very deserving winners of all the awards given out. The Top 3 from each class within their respective championships received some silverware, as well as the usual large trophies for our overall Duratec, Pinto and Historic Champions, namely Tom Stoten, Ross Hyett sharing his car with his son Nick Hyett and Trevor Welsh.

There was a special presentation of a beautiful painting to series secretary Roger Donnan, who had put so much into the championship over the last few years. A touching moment as the series came together to give something back to him.

Our Chairman Nick Bates and Commentator Chaz Draycott (with lots of help from others) put on a great show of the raffle too, with prizes of all kinds being handed out, from sets of Yokohama tyres, to weekends away, hats, t-shirts and of course alcohol.

One of the real highlights of the night though, would come in the form of an announcement. Clive Steeper stepped up to break the news to everyone, that after supporting the championship through the last two tough pandemic years Creative Funding Solutions have stepped down from being our championship sponsor. We are very grateful for their support and delighted that they are continuing as part of the SRCC family through continuing their support of Josh & Ash Law. However the series has been able to secure a deal with a new sponsor and partner – Lock4Vans.

Everyone involved in the championship is very grateful to Lock4Vans for their support, and we look forward to seeing how the series shapes out with some upcoming rule changes for 2022. On top of that of course, we really hope that they enjoy the racing whenever they may visit.

It’ll soon be time for the lights to go out at Donington Park and for the racing to get under way, but until then we reflect on what was a brilliant night with friends and family, really highlighting the positive direction in which the world is going after the height of the COVID pandemic.

Many thanks to Chaz Draycott for this report and his kind words.
