RIP Chris Batterbee

(by C Steeper)

It is with great sadness that we learned Chris Batterbee had passed away on 23/03/23. Chris had been a wonderful & generous supporter of Sports 2000 over the last few years.

I recall at the SRCC Awards Dinner in 2021 Chris Batterbee & I chatted about innovation and he said to me “Innovation is not something you do, it is a mindset. With a van broken into every 23 minutes, our mission has always been to stay one step ahead, and our pace of innovation delivers exactly that.”

Chris was passionate about his business, which he started in a garden shed! His company, Locks4Vans Ltd (L4V) is now the largest supplier of vehicle locks in Europe, manufacturing their own products, and working with the manufacturers producing prototypes for new vehicles.

Chris was an eccentric entrepreneur, but saw the benefit of being associated with motorsport. His view for L4V was similar to the ethos in Motorsport – ” we never sit still and are continually looking to improve & optimise.”

Through Locks4Vans Chris supported Sports2000, initially through sponsoring Giles Billingsley in Duratec and then for 2022, L4V sponsored both our championships (Duratec & Historic). His support has helped SRCC to continue its development as one of the best UK club motorsport championships. He was both a gentleman and an inspiration, and will be sadly missed by his wife and two sons.

RIP Chris Batterbee
