Welcome to Alan Jones

For this season Sports 2000 Racing Car Club have been very fortunate, and privileged to entice Alan Jones, the well known and respected retired HSCC Competion Secretary to join the SRCC team. Alan’s SRCC role is as “race meeting liaison” with the aim of keeping the drivers in order (good luck with that).

Alan started coming to Silverstone in 1965 and by 2006 had joined HSCC (Historic Sports Car Club) based at Silverstone. Over Alan’s many years with HSCC he has become very familiar with many of the cars in the Historic classes; both when they were new and when campaigned more recently. He has also met many of the infamous characters who raced back in period, so although he has not raced or engineered a car he can navigate himself extremely well around the paddock, the administrative process and knows many of the Motorsport UK officials who are so vital in running race meetings in the UK.

In 2021 Alan retired from HSCC and was enjoying a less stressful time or as he put it himself “I was about to become a couch potato lurking on Facebook until I was contacted by Mike Turner and Roger Donnan (of SRCC), who decided the pipe and slippers were not quite me yet and recruited me into SRCC”.

“One of my less successful attempts at herding from Donington, as your photographer tries to pen the flock for the group photograph. I will try to do better” – Alan Jones.

Alan’s first weekend withSRCC was at our first race meeting of the year at Donington, where he did an excellent job and instantly became a favourite with the competitors. was great fun. They are a super group of competitors who have a lot of family and friend support in the background so I anticipate your guests will be made to feel really welcome as I was last weekend.
