Stoten Victorious again at Castle Combe
Posted on: July 18th 2018 • Posted in: Race ResultsLast year’s Sports 2000 Duratec Champion Tom Stoten continued his impressive start to the 2018 season, winning the Castle Combe event from pole position.
Despite a remarkable qualifying session, in which he posted an identical time as David Houghton, Stoten’s Gunn TS11 started in P1, as he put his fastest lap on the board just 1.406 seconds before Houghton’s MCR crossed the line.
If qualifying was close, the race was more straightforward for the Gunn driver, with Houghton forced to retire after only three laps. That opened the door for Tim Tudor to finish in second place, eleven seconds ahead of Dominic Lesniewski whom he’d overtaken on Lap 1.
The top six was completed by the MCRs of Joshua Law, Roger Donnan and Peter Williams – the latter’s drive in particular catching the eye, as he weaved through the field from Row 10 and last position to finish sixth.
Unsurprisingly, race winner Stoten set the fastest lap of the race, although in the short time he was on the track David Houghton showed the threat he could have posed, finishing as the fifth fastest racer, despite only posting one flying lap!
All in all, another great day’s racing, with this wonderful summer continuing to produce glorious racing conditions.
